Drowning Person

Drowning Person Cold water closed over their head as they thrashed, arms reaching for a sky that drifted farther away. The weight of exhaustion pulled them downward, the world above growing dim—until strong hands grasped their own and hauled them back into the light. Coughing, gasping, they met the eyes of their rescuer and whispered, “I thought I was alone.”
